This past weekend, we traveled to Malaysia to see the Cameron Highlands region. It was a 4 hour drive north from Kuala Lumpur, 2 hours on the expressway and 2 hours on windy mountain roads. It was definitely worth the trouble to get there, though. (This is Nancy again, by the way. Jessica is taking advantage of my being here to blog for her.) We were about 2000 meters above sea level and the weather was much cooler than in Singapore. Jessica and Travis were very excited to experience the cool weather. The Cameron Highlands is famous for the terraced vegetable farms on the steep hillsides, hydroponic strawberry farms, waterfalls and the tea plantations. On Friday, we hiked on our own (or trekked as they like to call it) on a rugged trail through the rainforest as you'll see in the photos below. Then, on Saturday, we enjoyed a guided tour of the area. We drove to the top of the highest road in Malaysia to see the views below, trekked again in a very wet, muddy, mossy forest on top of the mountain, toured the BOH tea plantation (the photos above), viewed a local waterfall, and sampled strawberry sundaes at the area's most well known strawberry farm. It was a lot of fun. I really had no idea that Malaysia had so much to offer!
